It seems we keep the current take away restrictions and will have the reintroduction of "Stronger Futures" type restrictions with the Fyles Labor Government finally going out to do consultations with the community and do proper planning. I welcome the changes to protect the people who suffer the most at the hands of those who abuse alcohol in our community.
If the Fyles Labor Government had done the consultations properly in the first place we'd have seen a lot less pain and misery suffered by a lot of Territorians. If only they'd listened to all the people who said "Don't do it".
As part of the announcement today we'll also see the federal government tip in $250M in a plan for ‘A Better, Safer Future for Central Australia’.
I welcome the funding to help our community but have concerns on how NT Labor will use it. Their track record so far is not good.
And where is the announcement today on providing safety to our community, we are still seeing high amounts of break ins, criminal damage and assaults committed by adults and youth.
Is there anything in the "Anderson Report" provided to the Federal and NT Governments on the community safety issues we face daily. Will the Fyles Labor Government make the whole report public or will they just release the parts they want us to see. Time will tell.
