If Labor vote down an Inquiry into the current state of the police force they are turning their back on the 1044 police who voted in the NTPA survey.
It’s been 19 days since the survey and all police get is a hands-off lack of leadership and vague promises by Labor to reform the disciplinary system. This is meaningless, their lack of actions speak louder than words.
The damning survey results showed:
79.7 per cent of respondents said they do not have confidence in Police Commissioner Jamie Chalker;
92.6 per cent of respondents said they do not think there are enough police in the NT to do what is being asked of them;
79.4 per cent of respondents rated current morale in the NT Police Force as low, or very low; and
87.9 per cent of respondents said they were dissatisfied, or very dissatisfied with the current pay freeze offer from the Government.
NTPA President Paul McCue called it a “complete crisis”.
The CLP has tried twice in 2021 and 202 to have an inquiry into the crisis in morale, attrition, resourcing, confidence and well-being of our police force.
The Police Minister and Chief Minister have backed the Police Commissioner without any inquiry into the policing crisis.
In the absence of any leadership or action from Government, today the CLP detailed its proposed Inquiry into the police crisis.
Natasha Fyles calling the Inquiry a ‘talkfest’ shows her arrogance. She just doesn’t want to be exposed.
The CLP support a strong, united police force and that is why this Inquiry is so important.
