Labor refused to discuss Crime Crisis

Below is a press release from today where yet again the Labor Government refused to discuss or admit their crime crisis. I raised a censure motion due to the ongoing crime issues we face in Alice Springs and across the Territory.

GUNNER 2.0 DODGES CRITICAL CENSURE ON NT CRIME CRISIS

Shadow Minister for Health, Bill Yan, says Territorians can expect the same old Labor, no matter who emerges victorious from the contentious leadership challenge that could drag out into a month-long rank and file member ballot due to Labor’s infighting and egos.

“In Question Time today, the Police Minister dodged question, after question, around her failures to support our police and address the crime crisis.

“The CLP attempted to censure the Acting Chief Minister for failing to recognise the crime crisis in the Territory and acknowledge the suffering of our hard-working police.

“A censure motion is reserved for the most serious of debates on critical issues impacting Territorians.

“This was a golden opportunity for Labor to show Territorians it plans to finally acknowledge its multitude of policy failures that have led to the highest levels of crime and violence the Territory has seen since 2015 and how it plans to address the crime crisis.

“Labor would not even allow the motion to be debated.

“Sadly, this follows the government also rejecting the Opposition’s attempt to introduce a bipartisan select committee on the same day; where Labor again gagged debate around solutions to address crime.

“Crime and anti-social behaviour are real issues affecting real Territorians and the community is fed up, and this Labor government is not listening.

“Despite the departure of the worst Chief Minister the Territory has ever suffered under, Territorians can be assured Labor is nothing more.
